Dynamo lose home playoff match for only the second time

The Houston Dynamo have a remarkable 10-2-3 home playoff record (Robertson and BBVA Compass Stadiums) since moving to Houston from San Jose before the 2006 season.  Unfortunately one of those two losses came last night when the Dynamo were soundly beaten 2-0 by the Seattle Sounders in a sold-out BBVA Compass Stadium. I am not going to spend a lot of time talking about this match because: It was depressing and writing about it doesn’t improve the result. Seattle is defending MLS Cup Champions for a reason, and that is…. If you honestly look at the rosters both teams put … Continue reading Dynamo lose home playoff match for only the second time

The Dynamo are back in the MLS Western Conference Finals (whether anybody outside of Houston likes it or not)

Seven Conference finals in the Houston Dynamo’s twelve years of existence.  Four MLS Cup final appearances and two trophies.  Apparently this history doesn’t earn much respect from Merritt Paulson, Portland Timbers owner, who after his teams semifinal loss to the Dynamo said in an interview recently that Houston’s next opponents, reigning MLS Champions Seattle Sounders, “has a pretty easy path to MLS Cup”. Seattle has been established as a prohibitive favorite by the league’s pundits, many of whom are still disturbed that the Dynamo destroyed the cool match that so-called neutral observers expected with a Portland-Seattle Western Conference Final.  But … Continue reading The Dynamo are back in the MLS Western Conference Finals (whether anybody outside of Houston likes it or not)

Highlights of Precourt Sports Ventures President Dave Greeley’s presentation to the Austin Soccer Community

d Precourt Sports Ventures (PSV) President Dave Greeley visited Austin Wednesday evening to meet with the Austin soccer community to discuss a potential relocation of the Columbus Crew to the city.  There were no huge revelations in this meeting, but from my perspective the main takeaway from the event is that any future move of the Columbus Crew to Austin is mostly dependent on first, securing a site for a stadium that meets the criteria that PSV believes is necessary for a modern MLS location and second, achieving enough financial support from the Austin corporate community to finance this new stadium. … Continue reading Highlights of Precourt Sports Ventures President Dave Greeley’s presentation to the Austin Soccer Community

Why are no Soccer players in the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame?

Another class of inductees was announced by the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame (HOF) last week.  For the 23rd consecutive year, no soccer players were inducted and it certainly asks questions about how and why, in a city the size of San Antonio, this is even possible. San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame (HOF) Background:   According to its website, the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, a partnership of San Antonio Sports, the San Antonio Express-News, and the City of San Antonio, was founded in 1995 and recognizes those who have made an impact in the world of sports, … Continue reading Why are no Soccer players in the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame?
