Katy 1895 FC: A New Community Focused West Houston Club Begins NPSL Play Next Month

When Michael and Noel Veith decided to start a National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) club in the Houston area last year, their intention was to provide a place for local kids who had moved onto college and graduating high school seniors to improve their ability to excel in soccer college careers or at the professional level, if that was their dream. “Every kid in our first year is someone that is from a local high school or a local college.” said Michael Veith.  “For the college player it is very simple.  The kids that come need to be trained, … Continue reading Katy 1895 FC: A New Community Focused West Houston Club Begins NPSL Play Next Month

This post provides information on 18 Texas soccer radio shows and podcasts that have come to my attention since I launched this blog a little over a year ago.  I am publishing this list because there has been a recent wave of new podcasts that have joined the statewide soccer conversation and want to help spread the word.  There are Texas-based soccer radio shows and podcasts who are not included in this list….I only published the ones who gave their permission.  Radio shows and podcast programs are not easy to produce (many of them are live streamed) and are … Continue reading Texas Soccer Radio Shows and Podcasts

Twin Cities FC wins Texas Premier Soccer League Championship

The Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL) overcame a number of obstacles to get to last Saturday’s regular season finale…the TPSL League Cup Final.  Among these challenges, the Houston teams had to deal with scheduling issues due to Hurricane Harvey last fall, one of the teams left the league mid-season and, as a result, a new Championship game venue needed to be secured. All of that was forgotten last Saturday afternoon in San Antonio when Twin Cities FC (TC FC) from border city Eagle Pass rode three goals from mid-season addition Braulio Guillen to a 5-1 thumping of the Galveston Hurricanes … Continue reading Twin Cities FC wins Texas Premier Soccer League Championship

PDL’s AHFC Royals-Ambitious Youth Soccer Club takes the next step

Albion Hurricanes FC, a Houston, Texas youth soccer club founded eighteen years ago, has ambitiously expanded through the years to construct a program that now comprises dozens of boys and girls youth teams who train and play at multiple campuses in the western half of the city.  This growth has produced a deliberately constructed pyramid that allows players to progress from recreation to high levels of youth competition in an integrated pathway.   Last October the club announced the next step in their evolution, the creation of a new Premier Development League (PDL) team that further demonstrates their commitment to produce … Continue reading PDL’s AHFC Royals-Ambitious Youth Soccer Club takes the next step

Houston Dynamo destroy Atlanta United-Three observations and photos

The Houston Dynamo opened the 2018 MLS season with a 4-0 destruction of Atlanta United on a pleasant overcast Saturday afternoon at BBVA Compass Stadium. Three observations after watching the match in Houston yesterday First:  Alberth Elis is pretty good I can only remember one other time when a Dynamo attacking player made as much of an impact, without scoring a goal, as Alberth Elis did yesterday.  That would be in August of 2012 when Macoumba Kandji ran up and down the left side all day, terrorizing Heath Pearce and the New York Red Bulls in a 2-0 victory.  That … Continue reading Houston Dynamo destroy Atlanta United-Three observations and photos

Corpus Christi Soccer Embarks upon a New Journey

Corpus Christi is currently one of the largest cities in Texas without a high-level amateur or professional soccer team.  With the exception of the Corpus Christi Fuel, part of the National Premier Soccer League and short-lived Southern Premier Soccer League earlier this decade, top quality soccer of any kind has been hard to find in the Coastal Bend through the years. Fortunately for the growing number of soccer fans in the Corpus area, this will change in the spring when the newly-formed Corpus Christi FC Sharks make their debut in the USL Premier Development League (PDL).  The PDL is a … Continue reading Corpus Christi Soccer Embarks upon a New Journey
