USL Academy Program Begins Play in San Antonio This Weekend

The United Soccer League (USL) officially unveiled its vision for the future of the league’s Academy system earlier this year when it rolled out a new tier in the league’s identity called “USL Academy”. This weekend in San Antonio the league will take the first steps to turn this vision into reality when the USL Western Conference Academy Cup Regional Event is contested at San Antonio FC’s S.T.A.R. Soccer Complex and Toyota Field. Western Academy Cup Format Twenty-one matches will be played by fourteen Under-17 youth teams between Friday and Monday, October 11-14. 2019 Texas College Soccer Season Underway

The 2019 Texas College Soccer season is underway with preseason play beginning last week.  College Soccer programs (both 4-year and Community Colleges) generally play a compressed 15-20 game regular season that just recently began and ends in late October.  Conference and National playoffs, in the respective governing organizations (e.g., NCAA, NAIA), are concluded by early December.  Some universities, especially in Division I and II, also play abbreviated spring exhibition schedules. Rebranded USL League Two Begins 2019 Mid South Division Season Tonight

United Soccer League Two (USL 2), formerly known as the Premier Development League (PDL), begins play tonight in Grand Prairie when defending champion Brazos Valley Cavalry travel to face Texas United. United has played a unique and challenging preseason schedule that featured matchups against USL Championship sides. Brazos Valley, fielding a roster primarily composed of Houston Dynamo Academy players, comes off of a tough 1-0 loss to Laredo Heat in U.S. Open Cup action Tuesday night in Laredo. USL 2 consists of 74 teams playing in four regional conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada. Lower League Texas Derby Featured in Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup First Round

On Saturday afternoon Houston Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 2-1 at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium in the first iteration of the 2019 Texas Derby. Since this year’s version of the Derby is played over two matches, FC Dallas will get a second chance to return the favor and retain the coveted El Capitan cannon, awarded to the winner of the series each year, when the two MLS clubs meet in August. NPSL’s Midland-Odessa Sockers FC Begin Season with First Round U.S. Open Cup Match Next Week

The first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup arrives every May at an awkward time for the majority of teams entering at this stage of the competition. 24 teams from USL League 2 (previously Premier Development League-PDL) and the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), join 6 professional USL League One teams and 8 clubs who wended their way through difficult amateur qualifying competitions to complete the 19 matchups to be played in the Open Cup First Round next week. 2019 Texas UIL High School Soccer Championship Weekend Final Results

The 2019 Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) Public High School Soccer Championships were completed Saturday in Georgetown. El Paso region’s San Elizario High School (Boys 4A) won their second consecutive Championship. Of the six championship matches contested, three were won by DFW Metroplex teams and two by El Paso high schools. The final winner was Stephenville (southwest of Ft. Worth) who were 4A Girls Champions.
