Rio Grande Valley FC will arrive at the halfway point of its United Soccer League (USL) season when it completes tomorrow night’s game against Orange County FC at H-E-B Park in Edinburg.  Through 15 games of their 32 game schedule, they are 6-7-2 (20 points) and sit two places outside the final playoff spot in 10th place in the Western Conference. Friday night MLS Soccer action will feature round two of the 2017 Texas Derby in Houston, when MLS sides Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas compete for the 2018 rights to hold El Capitán, a replica 18th century cannon. 50 years ago on June 3rd and June 10, 1967, the first professional iterations of the Texas Derby were played in Dallas and Houston between the United Soccer Association’s (USA) Houston Stars and Dallas Tornado. A little more than 50 years ago the Houston Stars introduced a professional soccer league to Houston for the first time.  Domestic interest in the 1966 England World Cup, won by the home country, convinced a number of owners of teams in other U.S. professional sports that soccer could make money, or in any event help them fill open dates in the stadiums they owned. PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE: The Premier Development League (PDL) is one of the two-top amateur soccer leagues sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).  The league consists of 72 franchises in four conferences throughout the United States and Canada. The PDL is operated by the Division 2 United Soccer League (USL) and primarily is a place for college players to play in the summer while maintaining their NCAA eligibility. There are four Texas clubs in the PDL….all of them new to the league this season: Brazos Valley Cavalry FC (Bryan), FC Cleburne, Houston FC and Texas United (Grand Prairie). FC Dallas Academy wins their first Dallas Cup/Generation Adidas Cup results

FC Dallas’s (FCD) top Academy side beat FC Monterrey 2-1 last night to win the prestigious Gordon Jago U-19 Super Group at the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup in Frisco. As in the semifinal win over Coritiba, the main damage was done by two players on loan from the FC Dallas first team, Paxton Pomykal and Jesus Ferreira. In a repeat of the semifinal win, FCD gave up a late goal to tie up the match and then scored minutes later for the victory.  Pomykal opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. FC Dallas Advance to first U-19 Finals in Dallas Cup

FC Dallas (FCD) will face CF Monterrey Rayados in the finals of the U-19 Gordon Jago Super Group in the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.   To get the finals, Dallas defeated two-time Super Group champion Coritiba 2-1.  Coritiba is a club from Curitiba, Brazil…a city approximately 200 miles southwest of Sao Paulo.
