FC Dallas Academy wins their first Dallas Cup/Generation Adidas Cup results

FC Dallas’s (FCD) top Academy side beat FC Monterrey 2-1 last night to win the prestigious Gordon Jago U-19 Super Group at the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup in Frisco. As in the semifinal win over Coritiba, the main damage was done by two players on loan from the FC Dallas first team, Paxton Pomykal and Jesus Ferreira. In a repeat of the semifinal win, FCD gave up a late goal to tie up the match and then scored minutes later for the victory.  Pomykal opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. SAFC wins opener against RGVFC in the Valley

San Antonio FC went down to Edinburg last night and defeated Rio Grande Valley FC Toros 1-0 for the first time in the short history of both teams.  The Toros probably feel hard done by since they had multiple opportunities to level the game, but their feverish finish was too little too late.  This match also served as the USL opening night for the beautiful $34 million 9,700 soccer-specific stadium (H-E-B Park) built for the Toros. Dynamo stalwart Corey Ashe Retires

Former Dynamo midfielder/defender Corey Ashe, who announced his retirement last week, was honored at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston during halftime of last Saturday night’s victory over Columbus Crew.  Ashe was a key linchpin in the Dynamo sides that went to 3 MLS Cups between 2007 and 2012.  He began his career with the Dynamo in 2007 after being selected in the second round (26th overall) of the MLS Super Draft off a sterling four year career at the University of North Carolina.  He was drafted as a midfielder and contributed, mostly off the bench, to the 2007 MLS Cup … Continue reading Dynamo stalwart Corey Ashe Retires
