Lower League Texas Derby Featured in Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup First Round

On Saturday afternoon Houston Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 2-1 at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium in the first iteration of the 2019 Texas Derby. Since this year’s version of the Derby is played over two matches, FC Dallas will get a second chance to return the favor and retain the coveted El Capitan cannon, awarded to the winner of the series each year, when the two MLS clubs meet in August. Austin Bold FC Win Inaugural Home Match at New COTA Stadium

A sellout crowd of Austin Bold soccer fans, who witnessed the joint home and stadium opener for their United Soccer League Championship (USL) expansion franchise, were rewarded when the Bold defeated rival San Antonio FC (SAFC) 1-0 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in South Austin Saturday night. Austin Bold Inaugural Home Match against SAFC Opens New COTA Soccer Stadium Saturday Night

Austin Bold FC will make a big splash Saturday night when they play their inaugural home soccer match against I-35 rivals San Antonio FC (SAFC). The evening will also mark the opening of the Bold’s new 5,000 seat stadium at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) raceway and entertainment venue south of Austin. After a busy offseason, San Antonio FC (SAFC) begins their fourth season in the United Soccer League Championship (USL) this weekend. Since the 2018 season ended (with Louisville City FC crowned as USL champions), the league has launched a new division to provide opportunities for professional soccer in cities that are not big enough to support a USL or MLS team (USL League One). San Antonio FC Begin Preseason with Plans to Return to the Postseason in 2019

2018 began with high hopes for San Antonio FC. A solid base of returning players expressed a quiet confidence during preseason that they were ready to improve on the successful second place 2017 finish. Unfortunately, the season never really got untracked. An early 3-0 home loss to Orange County SC pointed to concerns, especially on the defensive side of the field, that persisted over the course of the season. Consistency was also an issue all year. USL expansion team Austin Bold FC began their inaugural preseason on Monday and held the first Media Day at their Circuit of The Americas (COTA) location yesterday.
