Like other end-of-year lists I am publishing, this selection of various Teams, Coaches and Players is my best attempt at identifying excellence over the course of the year and not intended to be a “Best of” list. There is too much soccer activity in the State, for me at least, to make these kinds of claims. Multiple Texas College Soccer Teams Advance to Next Round of 2018 NCAA Soccer Tournament

United Soccer Coaches Final Rankings and All American Selections-Texas teams and players

The United Soccer Coaches (https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/) has announced its final college rankings and the All American teams for the just completed 2017 season. Listed below are Texas universities or junior colleges ranked in the final polls.  Teams that win the various championships are ranked number 1 in all polls. Tournament results have a disproportionate impact on the rankings.  Teams can go on a run in the playoffs and end up higher ranked than teams with much better regular season records. SMU Soccer’s senior class after season ended Saturday night At the beginning of the third week of the 2017 NCAA Soccer Tournament only three Texas soccer teams remained in the hunt for a championship.  After two of the sides lost to North Carolina teams on the road this weekend only one remains, Abilene’s Hardin Simmons Women’s Soccer team who play in the Division III Final Four next weekend, also in North Carolina. Home team listed first unless noted Division I Men: SMU-2  Central Arkansas-0 After a scoreless first half, the initial shot of the second produced the game winner for SMU in a 2-0 victory over Central Arkansas at Westcott Field in Dallas.  Garrett McLaughlin scored (his team-leading 14th of the season) in the 50th minute to give the Mustangs all they needed to advance to the next round of the tournament.  A 78th minute goal from Christian Boorom ended any hope of a Central Arkansas comeback . Austin Women’s Soccer College Conference Tournament Update

Baylor wins the Big12 soccer Championship.  Photo credit:  big12sports.com All six Austin area Women’s college soccer teams advanced to their respective conference tournaments.  None of the teams advanced past the semifinal round and both DI teams lost opening round matches to lower seeded teams. San Antonio Women’s Soccer College Conference Tournament Update

Trinity College 2017 SCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament Champions-Photo credit: SCAC Website-November 5, 2017 Of the seven Women’s college soccer programs in the San Antonio area, only three qualified for their respective conference tournaments. Trinity University won another Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC) conference championship when it defeated local rivals Texas Lutheran 1-0 on Sunday.
