Mid South Conference PDL Week 2 Recap/Week 3 Schedule

Posted by

Week 2 of the PDL season was actually the first week that Mid South teams began their seasons.  It was a light schedule as only three teams were in action this past weekend.  The limited games played included the debut matches for the two Texas PDL expansion franchises-AHFC Royals and Corpus Christi FC.  All teams will have played after this upcoming weekend except Brazos Valley Cavalry, who do not open until May 22.

Week 2 Recap:

Friday, May 11:

Corpus Christi FC-2     Houston FC-1     Houston Baptist University, Houston, TX

A 90th minute goal from defender Gabriel Quesada led the Corpus Christi Sharks to a 2-1 road victory over Houston FC in their inaugural PDL match.  Sharks forward Nenad Markovic, from San Antonio’s St. Mary’s University, opened the scoring in the first half, but pressure from Houston FC at the beginning of the second half resulted in a match tying headed goal from Aldo Tarantini , from local Bellaire High School.  Corpus Christi out-shot Houston 24-10 and the result could have been much worse but for goalkeeper Connor Talbot’s 9 saves.

Sunday, May 13

AHFC Royals-4    Corpus Christi FC-2     Tully Stadium, Houston, TX

After Corpus Christi won their inaugural PDL game on Friday night, AHFC Royals turned the table against them Sunday and also won their first match-a high-scoring home affair against the Sharks.

Corpus Christi took an early lead through a free kick goal from 22 yards out off the left foot of Nenad Markovic, his second of the weekend, and another long range shot from defender Stanley Smith.  Albion then scored twice in the first half to go into half time even.  It was fitting that a former youth player from the Albion system, midfielder Gerrardo Arriaga, scored the first ever goal for AHFC Royals.  Forward Killian Colombie scored right before the half to bring the score level at 2-2.  Playing their second game in three nights, the Sharks held on but two late goals from Romain Daniellou and substitute Giouliano Andrade, both assisted by Colombie sealed the win for the Royals.  If the match report is correct, both goalkeepers should be given medals for stopping 24 shots, 15 by the Sharks Victor Villareal.
