Texas MLS and USL Team Roster Updates

With the release of the United Soccer League (USL) home openers today, we now know that Major League Soccer (MLS) will begin its season on March 3 and USL on March 16th. Texas MLS team preseason camps will begin the week after next and USL will likely follow a couple of weeks later.

FC Dallas will be in competitive action first when they travel to Panama City to play Tauro FC in the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League on February 21.  The return leg of this series will be contested a week later in Frisco.

Rosters for all of the 4 professional teams in Texas are in various stages of development.  FC Dallas, because they will be in action earlier, are the farthest along in the process.  RGV FC has no announced players, presumably because the Dynamo are focused on finalizing their first team roster.  Though they are not a Texas team, also included is an update on the Columbus Crew roster.  I will be tracking the Crew more closely this season because of the potential 2019 move to Austin.

MLS rosters are limited to 30 players with 2 of these slots dedicated only to homegrown players.  Each club has been allocated 8 international slots-which can be traded.  In 2017, USL rosters were limited to 30 players on each clubs Master Roster-which is the official player roster for USL play.  A maximum of 7 of those players can be internationals.

Listed below are the current rosters for all teams with updates announced since the beginning of the year highlighted.
