Both Texas USL teams are in action at home this weekend.

San Antonio FC (SAFC) vs. Seattle Sounders 2

  • SAFC puts it undefeated record on the line in a rematch with Seattle Sounders 2. San Antonio beat Seattle 3-2 on its Pacific Northwest trip a couple of weeks ago. Sounders 2 currently sit in 5th place in the West, 10 points behind conference leading SAFC.
  • SAFC midfielder Billy Forbes was named USL Player of the Month for the first six weeks of the season through the end of April.  Forbes scored 6 goals and had 3 assists during this stretch, and is the key reason why SAFC remains undefeated. Also this week, Diego Restrepo, as a result of his four-save shutout against Sacramento,  was named to the USL Team of the Week.

Rio Grande Valley FC (RGV FC) vs. Swope Park Rangers

H-E-B Park-Edinburg-7:30 p.m., Saturday May 13, 2017

  • Rio Grande Valley returns to action after a week off against Swope Park Rangers tomorrow.  Both teams have played six games so far and Swope sits in 4th place, 3 points clear of the Toros who hold down eighth place, and the final playoff, slot. Rangers defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 2 3-1 last weekend in Kansas City. Midfielder Lebo Moloto was named to the USL Team of the Week for his game winning goal and assist in the Whitecaps 2 victory.
  • Swope Park is the USL affiliate of Sporting Kansas City (SKC), a major Houston Dynamo rival.  The team is loaded with top talent developed by Sporting, including three top defenders who are currently on loan to Swope from SKC.  Erik Palmer-Brown, who played last season in Portugal and is a mainstay in the U.S. U-20 national team, is one of the most highly regarded young defenders in MLS.  The team is led in scoring by Kharlton Belmar, who scored his 4th goal of the season last weekend against Whitecaps 2.
  • Oumar Ballo, who was a second-round MLS Super Draft selection by the Dynamo in 2015, is a regular on the Swope back line.  Ballo was waived by the Dynamo later that year before making a regular season appearance for the club.
