San Antonio FC (SAFC) vs. Seattle Sounders 2 (S2)
Starfire Stadium, Tukwila, WA -9:30 p.m. CDT, Tuesday April 25, 2017
SAFC travels a short distance down the Pacific Coast to play the second of a three game road trip against Seattle Sounders 2.
Seattle is 2-3 (6 points) and is tied with 3 other teams on points for 8th place, but sits in 11th because of a negative-4 goal differential. S2 lost 3-1 to Real Monarchs at home Saturday night.
Like many MLS USL teams, the S2 roster is supplemented each week by loan players from the first team, though last weeks team was predominantly S2 rostered players. Goalkeeper Tyler Miller, who made an excellent save on Saturday to deny a fourth Real Monarchs goal, has been on loan to S2 this season. Homegrown graduate Seyi Adekoya has been playing up top for them at times this season also. The Sounders have brought in three high potential Cameroonians over the last couple of years. Outside back Nouhou Tolo was signed to the first team in the offseason after a successful stint with S2 last year. The two other more recent additions, defender Rodrigue Ele and forward Felix Chenkam, are U-20 Cameroon internationals and have seen significant playing time this season.
SAFC is one point clear of Real Monarchs in first place after their 2-1 victory in Vancouver. One key contributor to SAFC’s early season fast start is their efficiency in front of goal. Their league leading goal-conversion rate (32 percent of the team’s shots on goal) has maximized the benefit of the 11 goals they have scored (3rd in USL). There were serious questions at the beginning of the season about SAFC’s offensive potential. So far all of the questions have been put to rest. Billy Forbes will test the S2 back line tonight as he has everybody else this year.
