Rio Grande Valley FC (RGV FC) vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks
H-E-B Park,-Edinburg-7:00 p.m., Wednesday April 12
Colorado Springs Switchbacks conclude their two-game Texas swing when they play Rio Grande Valley FC (RGV FC) Toros at 7:00 p.m. tonight at H-E-B Park in Edinburg.
The Switchbacks, after their 1-1 draw in San Antonio last Saturday, sit in sixth place in the USL Western Division on 5 points, two points ahead of RGVFC. The Toros won both games against Colorado Springs last season, including a 2-1 home victory in the second meeting.
Rio Grande Valley FC hopes to build on the momentum generated from its first win of the season last Saturday in Oklahoma City (OKC). Tonight’s game is the first of five consecutive home games, the longest stretch of the season. Starting left back Victor Garza will miss the game tonight due to his red card ejection late in the match last Saturday. Calle Brown, who has been on loan from Houston Dynamo recently, was named the USL Goalkeeper of the Week based on his shutout and superb penalty-kick save that ended up being the difference in the OKC win. New Columbian forward Camilo Monroy was a revelation Saturday night and it will be interesting to see if he continues to build on the obvious skill and technical ability that is evident early on in his stay in the Valley.
On the Switchbacks website, Colorado Springs Head Coach Steve Trittschuh had this to say about tonight’s game. “All around they [RGV FC] are a good, organized team and we’re going to have to be careful with their young forwards,” warned Trittschuh. “They’ve had success playing their style of game, and they’ve got a lot of good, hungry, young players. They went into OKC and got the 3 points so we know Wednesday won’t be an easy game.”
